Stanley Mills is a complex of restored cotton mill buildings which now house a museum and residential apartments. Owned and restored by Historic Scotland
the mills were originally built in the 18th century as a single water mill alongside the river Tay - this original mill, The Bell Mill, is one of the oldest surviving factories in the
world and now houses an interactive museum and exhibition. The other buildings were added later as the mill expanded. Stanley village, nearby, was built in the
1780s to house the mill workers. The mills closed as late as 1989.

The Bell Mill is the original building with its large adjacent water wheel. This is fed by a network of canals, as seen here, which
divert the fast flowing river Tay through the mill complex. The mills were built here as the river rounds a sharp bend at this location.
