It is the ancient home of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl who have lived in the castle for over 700 years. Cumming's Tower is the oldest part of the castle which also holds the distinction of being the last castle in Britain to be besieged, in 1746. The Duke of Atholl also provides the home for the Atholl Highlanders, the last private army in Europe. Visitors can explore 30 rooms in the castle as well as the restored gardens and woodland. Famous visitors include Mary, Queen of Scots, Queen Victora and Bonnie Prince Charlie. |
