Introduction to Stirlingshire
|
|
Stirlingshire offers both highland and lowland vistas from the Ochil Hills east of Stirling to
the remote mountains, lochs and glens of the the Trossachs to the west. Stirling is the main
centre of population with the nearby battlefield of Bannockburn offering an insight into past
conflicts. Robert the Bruce stands guard on his horse at the visitor centre, shown left. Stirling
Castle is also one of most magnificent in Scotland and a whole days visit on its own!

The Trossachs are now incorporated into a National Park along with Loch Lomond and are rightly famous
for their beauty. You can even sail around Loch Katrine, in the west of the region, on a restored
steamship as see here.
