Orkney, just off the north coast, has 70 islands to explore, each with their own character
and historical remains. The village of Skara Brae, shown right, as well as burial chambers and standing
stones were built before the Pyramids.
The main town of Kirkwall boasts one of the finest cathedrals in Britain in St Magnus, shown left, and is
a bustling centre. You won’t find many trees in Orkney but the landscape is typically unique and unspoilt.
