Introduction to Lanarkshire
Lanarkshire sits to the south and east of Glasgow and is centered around the towns of
Motherwell, Airdrie and Lanark. It is a region of extremes from heavily populated
industrial towns to the remote countryside south of Lanark. An insight into the industrial
past can be gained at the Summerlee Heritage Park where a tram route has been recreated, see
left.
Lanarkshire is not all industry however, as the famous New Lanark Mills and Bothwell Castle,
shown right, can testify. There is always something surprising to find away from the main
routes.
