Linoleum
Title: Linoleum
Description: Kirkcaldy is famous for the manufacture of Linoleum and was the largest producer in the world in the late 1870s. The main factory buildings dominate the town and can be seen here. This is the main production plant which was built for Michael Nairn & Co. Although the floor covering became unfashionable due to associations with the 1960s, it has seen a new lease of life due to its disease suppression properties and is widely used in hospitals. The Forbo group merged with Nairn to form the Forbo Nairn Group and is now called Forbo Flooring. Linoleum itself is usually supplied as tiles which can be cut to fit the required flooring area.
